filming day 3

Hey guys! My group and I have just finished our last scene, the flashback scene. If you didn't know already, we were originally supposed to film our flashback scene on filming day 2, but my group was all super busy during winter break, as we all had plans with family. As a result, we filmed scene 2 (the flashback scene) after filming scene 3 (the school scene) first.

We filmed this scene at Jahzara's house, specifically her bedroom. In this scene, all of us were present: me, Emijola, Jahzara, and Ngoc. In this scene, Raina, Emijola, and Ngoc find out about Jahzara's cancer for the first time. We walk into her room and see her in her "death" bed. As actors, we all had to act devastated in this scene. In order to do this, I kept yawning to give my eyes a watery look. As for Emijola and Ngoc, the tears were just not forming at all, so they tried many different methods. They first tried to watch sad videos to see if that would make them cry, but then that did not work. Then, they tried cutting up onions, but that also did not work. Eventually, they just placed water drops on their face to show the "tears" in their eyes.

Before we could officially record this scene, we also had to adjust Jahzara's room a little bit. For example, Jahzara had bought "Get Well Soon" balloons and flowers to place around the room. I place these props strategically around the room. I intentionally placed the flowers on each side of the bed; one bouquet was on the bedside table, and the other was placed on a book cart. I did this because this is similar to the way flowers are placed when you visit a sick patient at a hospital. We also had to adjust the lighting in her room because she had adjustable lights, so we played with the light settings until we found a setting that fit the aesthetic we were going for. While I was adjusting the set, Jahzara was putting on makeup to give her a sickly look. She put dark contour and shadows underneath her eyes and throughout her face to make it look as if she were truly pale and dying.

Moreover, in this scene, you already know there is a montage. However, before the montage scene, there's a quick scene of the three girls walking into the room. To film this first shot of the scene, we had asked one of our friends to come with us after school to her house to help us record (Naomi). Naomi helped us record the first shot of the scene, and she helped give us input on what we could improve on to make the set design better.

Overall, day 3 of filming was successful and only took around 2 hours to record. A majority of the time spent was preparing the scene, though, such as forming the tears, applying the makeup, and setting up the layout of the room. The actual process was only difficult in the beginning because we could not stop laughing when we hit record. However, we all told ourselves we needed to finish this, and so we took it seriously the next few tries, eventually getting it done in around 4-5 tries.
