Editing 2

Long time no see! (As if we didn't just talk yesterday..)

Anyways, welcome back guys, to another blog of mine. Today, I will be discussing editing day 2 for our movie opener. Progress of completion is definitely coming along, thank goodness.

For editing day two, it was editing our last scenes together, scene 2 and scene 3. Once again, Emijola and Jahzara are doing the main or actual physical part of editing, whereas I am giving the specific ideas and input on the editing. We are using the Capcut app to edit as we filmed our movie opener using the iPhone camera, which means importing the clips from the phone to the app is a lot easier than importing clips from a camera onto a phone to edit.

We first used a smash cut to transition from scene 2 to scene 3. We chose to implement such an abrupt cut so that the audience fully understands that we are transitioning back to the present and that we are done with the flashback scene. Now, to transition from the different shots of scene 3, we first used the invisible cut method from the staircase shot to the classroom shot. We did this because in the staircase shot, a student accidentally walked in front of the camera while we were filming it. However, we used this as an opportunity to create an invisible cut. This means that as the student walks past the camera, the shot smoothly transitions to the classroom shot.

Last but not least, once in the classroom scene, we simply let the shot play until right before it ends, where we added a blur effect. This blur effect only blurs the left and right sides of the film, leaving the center unblurred. We did this because this creates the effect as if the audience is truly in the point of view or within the eyes of Ngoc. As this blur appears, the original classroom audio also starts to fade out, and thus, you can only hear the song playing.
